Targeted Pest Treatment

Metropolis offers one-time applications for targeted pest control – perfect if you want a specific pest handled without committing to a long-term contract.

Service Details:

• Visits: Treatments start with as few as one visit, based on your specific pest.
• Follow-up: Some pests may require additional treatments for full control.
• More info: Expand a pest below for treatment details specific to that infestation.

Fleas

Fleas

Fleas can be a big nuisance in your home. They have a complex four-stage lifecycle, and controlling fleas on your pet and in your home requires addressing all stages of that cycle to stop reinfestation.

Treatment targets:
Stops the egg and larval stages
Kills adult fleas shortly after contact
Residuals target pupating fleas that emerge after treatment

Before treatment:
All pets must be treated on or before the day your home is treated. We recommend keeping your pet on a Frontline or Advantage cycle (whichever your vet recommends).
Pick up all items off the floor and vacuum thoroughly, paying special attention to pet bedding and cushions – wash in hot water if possible.

Treatment day:
Metropolis treats flooring, carpets, throw rugs, and furniture throughout your home, plus a perimeter treatment around the exterior.

Everyone must be out of the home for a 4-hour period during treatment. Upon reentry, vacuum again and dispose of the bag.

Follow-up & warranty:
A follow-up treatment is performed 2 weeks after the initial visit. A 90-day warranty begins after the follow-up treatment.

Cockroaches

Cockroaches

Cockroaches are more than just a nuisance – they’re a serious health concern for your family. They’re difficult to eradicate and reproduce quickly, so effective control requires a comprehensive approach: sanitation, physical removal methods, and chemical treatments.

Sanitation tips (key to a successful treatment):
Regularly clean surfaces, especially in kitchens and bathrooms.
Remove food scraps and debris that attract cockroaches.
Pay special attention to inside and underneath stoves, refrigerators, and small appliances like microwaves and toasters.
Store food in airtight containers.
Fix leaking pipes and faucets to eliminate water sources.
Empty trash bins regularly.

Before treatment:
Remove all items from kitchen and bathroom.cabinets and drawers to allow for thorough treatment.
Move furniture away from walls to allow easier treatment and prevent hiding spots.

Treatment day:
Metropolis inspects entry points and nesting areas, with focused, targeted treatment in high-risk areas like kitchens and bathrooms.

Follow-up & warranty:
This service includes two (2) follow-up treatments, allowing Metropolis to monitor progress and address any lingering cockroaches or newly hatched eggs. A 90-day warranty begins after the two (2) follow-up treatments.

Mice – Interior

Mice

Mice need everything we need: food, water, and shelter. They can squeeze through a hole the size of a dime – and once inside, they have everything they need to start breeding. At that point, your home has become their home.

Inspection:
Metropolis thoroughly examines your property to identify signs of rodent activity, including common entry points, runways, gnaw marks, droppings, and nesting material. Based on this assessment, Metropolis designs a treatment plan specific to your home.

Follow-up & warranty:
This service includes one follow-up treatment, two weeks after the initial visit, allowing Metropolis to monitor progress and apply additional treatment if necessary. A 90-day warranty begins after the follow-up treatment.

Bed Bugs

Bed Bugs

Bed bugs are small insects that feed on the blood of warm-blooded animals that are similar to mosquitoes, though they don’t fly or jump like fleas. They’re hitchhiking pests that catch a ride on items like purses and luggage, earning their name from where they’re most often found: beds, sofas, and other human “nesting” areas. Once they invade, they spread quickly. They spend most of their time hiding, are typically active at night, and avoid light and disturbance. There’s no evidence bed bugs transmit disease, but their bites can cause an allergic reaction.

Our treatment approach:
A bed bug liquid treatment is the most cost-effective option. Metropolis conducts a thorough inspection, focusing on critical hiding areas: baseboards, electrical outlets, furniture, beds, dressers, closets, and mattress seams.

Preparation is critical.
The more time spent preparing properly, the faster your results:

Pick clothing up off the floor and clear clutter; launder clothing.
Declutter to remove potential harborage areas, and check items for signs of infestation.
Move furniture two feet away from walls and baseboards.
Empty dresser drawers and under-bed storage; launder clothing (closet items can stay, but access is needed to baseboards and shelving tops).
Remove all sheets, comforters, pillows, and bedding covers from mattresses and box springs in every bedroom.
Wash clothing and bed linens in the hottest water possible, then dry on high heat for at least 40 minutes; seal clean items in garbage bags until treatment is complete.
Remove mattresses and box springs from bed frames and place against the wall.
Vacuum baseboards and areas of heavy dust buildup, then dispose of the bag.
Launder pet bedding; cover fish tanks and terrariums.

Important safety notes:
Do not re-enter treated areas for 4 hours after service. Do not spray any pesticides or cleaning products in treated areas after treatment – this will cause control failure.

What to expect after treatment:
Spray barriers may be visible in some areas (like above baseboards or outlets) – leave them in place; they remain active for up to 3 months if undisturbed, and can be removed later with kitchen or bathroom cleaner.
Live bed bugs may still be visible for 2–3 weeks, often wandering in unusual places -this is a sign the treatment is working.
Bed bugs may not leave hiding spots for several days, and hatching nymphs won’t be affected until they cross a spray barrier. All bed bugs will die within 3–7 days of contact with the treatment.
Heavy infestations may require a follow-up treatment.

Follow-up & Warranty:
This service is guaranteed for 90 days.

Ants

Ants

Common ants found in Southern California include Argentine Ants, Carpenter Ants, and Red Imported Fire Ants, along with Little Black Ants, Harvester Ants, and Pharaoh Ants. Ants generally live outdoors but are drawn inside by food, water, and shelter – often in response to changing weather. Kitchens and bathrooms are the most common places to find them indoors.

Common ant species in Southern California:
Argentine Ants: Small, light brown to reddish brown, known for forming large colonies with multiple queens. Give off a musty odor when crushed.
Carpenter Ants: Large (up to ½ inch), with heart-shaped heads and elbowed antennae. Often nest in wood, including structures in and around homes.
Red Imported Fire Ants: Found within a quarantine area covering Orange, Riverside, and Los Angeles Counties. Known for painful stings and displacing native ant species.
Little Black Ants: Small and very common in Southern California. Nest outdoors but can infest homes and businesses while foraging
Harvester Ants: Collect seeds and plant matter, nest underground, and are known for being aggressive with a painful sting.
Pharaoh Ants: Small, yellowish-brown, and prone to infesting homes and businesses in moisture-prone areas. Require accurate identification and specialized baiting – improper treatment can cause the colony to scatter and worsen the problem.
Odorous House Ants: Small, brown to black, emitting a strong odor resembling rotten coconut when crushed. Invade homes in search of food and water, and can contaminate food due to sheer number.

Our treatment approach:
Metropolis thoroughly examines your property to properly identify the species present, inspecting common entry points and seeking out trails, wood shavings, and other areas ants frequent. We then treat critical areas both inside and outside your home using a combination of methods – baiting, insecticide applications, direct nest treatments, and dust or granule applications.

Follow-up Warranty:
This service is guaranteed for 90 days.

Spiders

Spiders

Common spiders found in Southern California include the American House Spider, Yellow Sac Spider, Black Widow, Brown Widow, Orb Weavers, and Wolf Spiders. Spiders generally live outdoors but seek out quiet, undisturbed places to build webs or hide – often drawn to areas with insects and other small arthropods to prey on. Closets, storage rooms, and spaces under furniture provide both hiding spots and potential food sources.

Common spider species in Southern California:
American House Spider: The most common house spider in Southern California, known for messy, tangled webs.
Yellow Sac Spider: Small and pale yellow, often found indoors building silken retreats in corners and under objects. Responsible for more spider bites than any other spider.
Black Widow: Venomous, with a distinctive red hourglass marking. Found in dark, sheltered places; not aggressive, and typically only bites when threatened.
Brown Widow: Another venomous species, common and increasingly found in urban areas of Southern California. Considered invasive; builds webs in secluded, often exposed areas around homes and vegetation.
Orb Weavers: Known for distinctive wheel-shaped webs. Beneficial, though webs can be a minor nuisance near walkways and entryways
Wolf Spiders: One of the most abundant spiders in California. Large, ground-dwelling hunters that don’t build webs; common in gardens and around homes.

Our treatment approach:
Metropolis thoroughly inspects both the interior and exterior of your home to identify the spider species, assess the extent of the infestation, locate harborage areas, and pinpoint entry points and conducive conditions. Web removal and exclusion techniques minimize spider activity and prevent future infestations, using a combination of methods – residual sprays, dust applications, direct nest treatments, granule applications, traps, and exclusion.

Follow-up & Warranty: This service is guaranteed for 90 days.
